This is an informational interview with Breanna Reed, Pediatric Audiologist, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Oakland, CA. The purpose of this interview is to provide information to young adults interested in exploring or jumpstarting a career in the medical field. The interview was conducted as part of the Learn from Professionals initiative of the Young Professionals Career Engagement Program, BYU Management Society.
Breanna joined the Audiology department at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland in 2015, and became part of the multidisciplinary Pediatric Cochlear Implant team in 2020. As a pediatric audiologist, she cares for infants and children who are deaf and hard of hearing to provide auditory access through hearing aids and cochlear implants in promoting language development and communication. She works together with other medical specialties, educational teams, and family members to provide support to the whole child. She also helps run the student intern/extern program for the Audiology department at Children’s Hospital Oakland. Breanna earned her Doctor of Audiology degree at the University of Arizona including a clinical externship year in the Audiology Clinic at Duke University. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology from Brigham Young University.
