Jess Kruckeberg

Operations battalion commander with the Colorado Springs Fire Department in Colorado Springs, CO.

Jess Kruckeberg is an operations battalion commander with the Colorado Springs Fire
Department in Colorado Springs, CO. He has been with the fire department for 28 years
and works in the broadly defined emergency services industry. He began his career as
a firefighter/EMT and has held many roles in the department since.

Jess likes to say that if you have an event/emergency and are not sure whether to call a
plumber or a cop, call the fire department.

He grew up in Jackson, MS and at that time, had no inkling that being a firefighter was
in his future. After high school he attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs and
this became his hometown for the past 30+ years! As a member of the fire
department, he has responded to thousands of emergencies of all different kinds. Some
events are very serious such as structure fires and heart attacks, but others may include
minor traffic accidents and lost hikers. A duty shift is never boring!

When not on duty he enjoys spending time with family as well as working out, hiking,
mountain biking, and reading.

Jess is always willing to share with other’s the great work of the fire department and to
give back by bringing interested people into the world of first responders and
firefighters.
