Pour vous aider à préparer votre carrière et à trouver un emploi approprié, nous avons préparé ce guide de l'orientation professionnelle. Ce guide vous aidera à identifier une profession intéressante et gratifiante, à trouver un poste dans le secteur concerné et à maximiser votre potentiel de carrière. L'objectif du programme d'engagement professionnel des jeunes professionnels est de vous donner l'occasion d'entrer en contact avec des professionnels dans le domaine de votre choix de carrière et d'apprendre d'eux. Ces professionnels partageront avec vous leurs expériences professionnelles et leurs connaissances afin de vous préparer à entrer sur le marché du travail en tant que professionnel confiant, engagé et éthique.
La question : L'évolution de l'environnement économique est clairement un défi. Les jeunes professionnels ont souvent du mal à faire la transition entre leurs années d'éducation formelle et une carrière substantielle. Les jeunes professionnels peuvent réussir à l'école, mais ont souvent du mal à entrer en contact avec des professionnels dans le domaine qui les intéresse. Cette déconnexion peut conduire le jeune professionnel à ne pas réaliser pleinement ses objectifs de carrière et son potentiel de gain. Il ou elle peut également remettre à plus tard des décisions cruciales de la vie, comme une relation amoureuse sérieuse ou un mariage, parce qu'il ou elle a peur de devoir subvenir aux besoins d'une famille.
Les taux de chômage et de sous-emploi chez les jeunes diplômés s'améliorent mais restent nettement plus élevés qu'avant le début de la récession*.
Conçu avec vous en tête : Le programme d'engagement professionnel des jeunes professionnels a été conçu pour les jeunes professionnels qui sont membres ou amis de l'Église de Jésus-Christ des saints des derniers jours.

Le programme d'engagement professionnel des jeunes professionnels est divisé en deux sous-programmes. Veuillez considérer lequel de ces programmes vous aimeriez participer :
Introduction à un programme professionnel - ouvert à tous les individus âgés de 16 à 30 ans qui souhaitent poursuivre des études ou une carrière dans un domaine ou une vocation choisis. Ce programme s'appuie sur un réseau de professionnels performants organisé au sein du réseau de coaching professionnel des jeunes professionnels. Ces professionnels sont disposés à fournir au jeune adulte une introduction à cette profession et à résumer l'éducation et les compétences requises pour qu'il réussisse dans cette profession.
Programme d'accompagnement professionnel des jeunes professionnels - une relation d'accompagnement formelle utilisant l'aide de coachs professionnels bénévoles qui sont des professionnels expérimentés travaillant dans une variété de professions libérales et professionnelles. Le jeune adulte est jumelé avec un coach de carrière qui est membre de notre réseau de coaching et qui est un leader dans son domaine d'intérêt. L'objectif de ce programme est (1) d'enseigner aux jeunes adultes des compétences en matière de recherche d'emploi en groupe et en tête-à-tête, (2) de les préparer à des entretiens d'embauche ou d'information et (3) de les mettre en contact avec des professionnels dans le domaine qui les intéresse.

- Why do I need to choose a career now? Why can’t I keep working and find a career later?

- As a Return Missionary, how can I maintain my momentum while going to school or starting my career?
- How can I apply the skills I learned as a missionary while in school or at work?
- How should I use the information from a career assessment or career opportunities I see on the internet to help me find my career?

- Have you completed a career assessment? What did you learn from it? YPs can check with their school’s counseling center or career center to see if they offer it.
- What career options are you currently exploring?
- Have you researched online the growth projections and average salary for professions that interest you? (The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a great online resource.)
- Can we talk about how much your education will cost and how it will affect what you earn when you work in that field?
- Would you be interested in talking to someone for an informational interview in the professions that most interest you?
- Would you be interested in an internship, even if it did not pay?

- What is the best way for me to get on-the-job training if my career doesn’t require college education? Why would a college degree help me if it isn’t required?

- How can I explain to my parents the cost of my education and discuss providing partial support while I go to school, such as just paying for books or lab fees?
- What goals should I set while in school that will help me when I begin my career?

- What finance sources did you use to borrow money or get financial support? What did you do that you felt was good and what would you have done differently?
- When did you begin using a budget and how was it helpful to you in achieving true wealth?
- How has guidance from our General Authorities helped you manage debt?
- What resources did you use from your family or your ward to help you while you were in school or starting your career, such as help with child care, introductions to employers, part-time jobs?

- How do you plan to pay for your education? Can we identify two or three sources for you to consider?
- Have you ever created and used a budget? Would you be interested in learning how to do that?
- How could you increase your ‘income’ via scholarships, grants, part-time work or work study programs?

- Would you like to create a financial plan to complete your education? (You, as the coach can help them or work with your local Young Professionals program to get someone to help them.)

- How could you use church meetings or events to help you become more comfortable with networking?

- Would you like to have an informational interview to help you narrow down the organizations you would most like to work for? Use your connections or reach out to your YP program to introduce them to someone in their field. (Discuss questions they could ask to help them achieve this goal.)
- Which online sites do you think are most useful to help you know who is hiring and which companies you would like to work for?

- How can LinkedIn help me start and grow my career?
- Why do companies have policies about what I can post on social media when I’m not at work? How can their policies affect if I’m hired, or fired?
- Should I create my own website to highlight my resume, past projects and information that may be helpful to potential employers?
- What happens at networking events? Do they have a common format? What is my purpose for going to a networking event? (Discuss setting goals and how to follow-up.)

- Is there anything on your Facebook, Instagram or other media site that you would not want your mother or your bishop to see? Discuss why this should be removed.
- Have your friends posted photos or statements about you that you would not want your mom or bishop to see? (Discuss why they need to unfriend or hide some relationships)
- Do you know what LinkedIn is and how it can help you network? Would you like help creating a LinkedIn profile or would you like me to review your profile for suggestions on how to make it better?
- Who do you know that you believe uses social media in good, productive ways? What do they do that you like?

- Is it necessary to complete the entire online application if the information is in my resume?
- How important is spelling and grammar when submitting an application?
- Is there a way to follow-up after you submit an online application to know if they are interviewing or have filled the position?
- What should I put if the application asks for references? Should I tell the people that I put their name as a reference?
- How many applications should I submit at one time and how do I keep track of who I have applied to?
- How long should I wait to hear from a company before I apply to other companies or re-apply to that company?

- Which of the articles in the Career Engagement Guide have you read about completing applications? What did you learn and what do you want to understand better?
- Do you have any gaps in employment or weaknesses such as poor grades or poor driving record that would make it less likely for you to be interviewed? Talk about how to address weaknesses.
- Have you looked at an application and do you feel you have all the information gathered so you can complete an application in a fairly short period of time?

- Is it more important to put my education before my work experience or should I put my work experience before my education?
- What should I put if I don’t have any work experience or don’t have any work experience in my new career field?
- How should I explain my missionary service on my resume?
- Is it important that I use full sentences and paragraphs in my resume?
